International Symposium

Is our young generation physically fit? Are they physically active enough to maintain sufficient health and fitness? To answer these questions, a symposium aimed to bring together current research findings and initiatives from Asia-Pacific region has been organized by the Department of Sports Science and Physical Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Through discussions, debates, and dialogues, we can enlighten our understanding and knowledge in youth fitness. Such theme will also provides significant inspiration for policy making and project planning within our communities, schools, and families. Keynote speaker from Australia, and other invited speakers from Asia including Japan, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, and Hong Kong will share their research findings and current promotion projects or initiatives within their regions. So mark your calendar and save the date to join us at this meaningful occasion on 20th May, 2017!

Keynote Speaker

Grant R. TOMKINSON
University of North Dakota, ND, USA

Grant R. Tomkinson is an Associate Professor of the Department of Kinesiology and Public Health Education at the University of North Dakota. Passionate about fitness, activity and adiposity of young people, Grant also has a special interest in how different populations have changed over time. He has shown conclusively for the first time that young people’s aerobic fitness has declined worldwide since 1975, and his findings have generated major media and public attention. Grant received his B.Sp.Sc. degree from the University of New South Wales in 1998, and B.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of South Australia in 1999 and 2004, respectively. He has published over 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts and has generated over 1200 citations. He is currently the Chair of Active Healthy Kids Australia (AHKA), the Asia-Pacific Lead for the Active Healthy Kids Global Alliance (AHKGA), the Chief Lead Investigator on Australia’s Report Card on Physical Activity for Children and Young People, and a Young Tall Poppy Science Award winner.

Invited Speakers

ASIA-FIT TEAM
The Asia-Fit project involved 9 scientists from 8 major metropolitan cities in Asia, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tokyo, Singapore, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and Bangkok. Since 2014, they have investigated the levels of physical activity, fitness and obesity of youth in their respective regions. Six of the scholars will be invited to present their findings, trends, ideas, and initiatives which will help policy makers, P.E. teachers, and other stakeholders to better understand the effectiveness of various exercise and sports promotion strategies in different countries / regions, and to plan for future directions.

Call for Poster Presentation Submission

Submission Deadline: 26th March, 2017
The ISPAFY 2017 conference welcomes your abstracts for poster presentations. The submission period is 1 st February to 26th March, 2017. All submissions should be made using the submission form, which can be downloaded from: http://www.spe.cuhk.edu.hk/Portals/0/Forms/ISPAFY2017AbstractForm.docx.

Acceptance of poster presentation will be informed by 10th April 2017, and the first author of the poster submission MUST register for the conference and present in person from 13:30 to 14:30 on 20th May, 2017 at the poster exhibition hall of the conference.

Instruction
Poster presentations provide participants the opportunity to present and share original works related to our conference topics. The 60-minute poster presentation session provides an interactive forum for authors to discuss their work with all other conference participants.
  • Presenters will be assigned locations to put up their posters, which will be organized by topic.
  • Poster boards and pushpins will be supplied, and posters should be attached to the boards for display.
  • Presenters are encouraged to bring 1-page handouts to accompany their posters.
  • Poster presentation abstracts are limited to 400 words.
  • Poster abstracts should follow a standard format, which include: Title, Introduction, Objectives/Hypotheses, Method, Results, and Conclusions.
  • Completed abstract submission form should be e-mailed to:

Best Poster Presentation Award
Presenter may opt to participate in the “Best Poster Presentation Award” when submitting your abstract submission form. A selection panel will visit the posters during poster presentation session and to score the presentation. The top three ranked presentations will receive a certificate and a cash award of HK$2,000, HK$1,000, and HK$500 respectively.
